On August 4th, 22 junior faculty members and 9 panelists converged at the Convention Center in Boston to shape research ideas, discuss the tenure and publication processes, and to forge friendships during the 2012 BPS Junior Faculty Consortium. Each senior faculty member (Laura Poppo, Bruno Cassiman, Brent Goldfarb, Andy King and Maurizio Zollo) facilitated small group discussions focused on papers previously submitted by participants, and led discussions on various topics including teaching tips and techniques (Laura Poppo and Juan Alcacer), tenure process (Anne-Marie Knott and Brent Goldfarb), quality research in Strategy (Anne-Marie Knott) and the editors' perspectives (Nick Argyres, Bruno Cassiman, Gerry Davis and Ed Zajac). Co-chairs Anne-Marie Knott and Juan Alcacer wish to thank all who contributed to make this a valuable and fun event.
The BPS Division will again sponsor a Junior Faculty Consortium during the 2013 Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management in Lake Buena Vista (Orlando), Florida. The objective of the consortium is to enhance the scholarship, teaching, and overall career development of faculty in the early stages of their career. The consortium provides an excellent forum for exchanging ideas and tips concerning teaching and research as well as for expanding one's academic network.
Co-Chairs for the 2013 consortium are Juan Alcacer (Harvard Business School) and Jeff Furman (Boston University). We will draw the faculty panelists for the 2013 consortium from the top research and teaching business schools worldwide. There will be an editor's panel with representatives from leading strategy and management journals including Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Management Science, Organizational Science and Strategic Management Journal.
Any BPS member who has completed their dissertation by September 2012 and is in the first through the third year of their academic career or has recently moved into the Strategic Management/Business Policy field is welcome to apply. In addition, a participant should have a record of commitment to teaching and research in the Strategy/Business Policy field and not have participated in prior BPS Junior Faculty Consortia. Those interested in participating should apply no later than 15 May, 2013 by submitting the following items by email to Juan Alcacer (
