CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS: BPS DOCTORAL CONSORTIUM

Academy of Management, Philadelphia, PA

August 3-5, 2007

The Business Policy and Strategy Division will sponsor a doctoral consortium during the pre-conference period of the 2007 Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The objectives of the consortium are to support mid- to late-stage doctoral students as they shape their dissertations, to introduce them to some of their future colleagues, and to enhance their scholarship, teaching and overall development. To qualify for the consortium, a candidate must be in the proposal stage of his or her dissertation with plans to defend the dissertation proposal by September 30, 2007. The consortium will be held on Friday, August 3 from 6 pm to 9 pm; Saturday, August 4 from 8 am to 8 pm and on Sunday, August 5, from 8 am to noon.

The 2007 consortium co-chairs are Kyle Mayer (University of Southern California) and Tammy L. Madsen (Santa Clara University). The faculty panel includes: Rajshree Agarwal (University of Illinois, Urbana-Champagne), Jay B. Barney (Ohio State University), Gino Cattani (New York University), Irene M. Duhaime (Georgia State University), Michael A. Hitt (Texas A&M), Tarun Khanna (Harvard University), Richard Makadok (Emory University), Cathy Maritan (Syracuse University), Will Mitchell (Duke University), Peter Roberts (Emory University), and Harbir Singh (The Wharton School).

Interested doctoral candidates should apply in the writing by May 1, 2007 by submitting:

  1. a cover letter stating: a) that you are applying only to the BPS Doctoral Consortium (i.e. you are not also applying to the BPS Dissertation Consortium); b) a commitment to attend the BPS consortium if accepted; c) a commitment to accept an invitation to only one AOM doctoral consortium at the 2007 AOM meetings; d) the # years you have participated in your PhD program and your dissertation proposal defense date (on or before Sept. 30, 2007); e) why the BPS Doctoral Consortium is the best fit for you.
  2. a summary/abstract of your dissertation proposal with 3-5 keywords identified at the end of the abstract (2 page maximum).
  3. a current CV;
  4. a nomination letter from your dissertation chair; the letter should verify that the candidate is working on his/her dissertation proposal and confirm the candidate’s dissertation proposal defense date.

Please email your application to Kyle Mayer at kmayer@marshall.usc.edu. The preferred format for items 1-3 above is a single Word document, with the items presented in the order listed above and using the candidate’s last name as the file name. Item 4 may be submitted as a separate document, by the candidate or by the dissertation chair. Any questions concerning the Consortium may be addressed to Kyle Mayer at kmayer@marshall.usc.edu or 213-821-1141. Participants will be notified of their selection in early June, 2007.
